Kaleidoflight - Series I: Hookbills ©
"Golden Mantled Rosellas"

The hookbills in the artwork are Golden Mantled Rosellas, also called Eastern Rosellas, which originate in South-Eastern Australia and Tasmania.  They are perched in their native foliage displaying their beauty and boldness.  Despite their striking colors and patterns, rosellas can also blend in with the plants in their environment.  Since they love to eat blossoms as well as grains, they are often found in treetops and shrubs seeking these colorful delicasies.

Along with breathtaking beauty, when personality is factored in to describing a small hookbill, rosellas are loaded with spirit.   Although seldom handleable, they take great interest in everyone and everything around them.  They are very responsive and communicative with mellow voices lacking the shrillness associated with other parrots of similar size.  Our Golden Mantled Rosella especially loves to whistle tunes to popular songs and he does it complete with feeling and motions.
